Amnesty's LGBT Flash Pride!
8 May 2010, 12:30 PM
Cork & Dublin Pride may be in June... but Baltic Pride is this Saturday! Or, so it's supposed to be!
Time to show solidarity with the LGBT community in The Baltic states, who are forbidden from marching proudly on their streets!
Amnesty International has condemned the suspension by a Lithuanian court of the 2010 Baltic Pride march. The country's first-ever Pride march was to take place in the capital Vilnius, this Saturday 8 May, at 12:00. Preassure is now mounting on the Lithuanian government to overturn its decision, in a last minute attempt by human rights activitst from around the world, who have already begun gathering in the capital for the march.
As the fate of the first-ever Baltic LGBT Pride march remains uncertain, members of Amnesty International Ireland are calling on members of the LGBTQ community in Ireland to join them in a solidarity demonstration outside the Lithuanian embassy.
So bring your flags, your signs and your pride - as we gather in a 'Flash' Pride march to show solidarity with members of the LGBT community in Lithuania who either will not be allowed to march, or do so facing extreme oppostition.
So join us this Saturday and show your support for human rights for the LGBT community - not just here in Ireland, but all across Europe!
Let's show the Lithuanian government that human rights are universal, and that we here in Ireland share Pride with those in Lithuania!
We cannot be ignored!
See you all there!
