OurLivesOutLoud1 Katherine Zappone, Enda O'Brien and Ann Louise Gilligan at the launch of 'Our Lives Out Loud', which was officially launched by Enda O'Brien

Drs. Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan we joined last night in packed room by family and many friends for the launch of their book 'Our Lives Out Loud: In Pursuit of Equality and Justice'.

Michael O'Brien of O'Brien Publications (the publishers of the book), who sowed the seed of possibility for them writing their joint memoirs, gave the opening address, followed by esteemed writer and feminist, Edna O'Brien who officially launched the book. Katherine and Ann Louise also spoke about how they came to write the book, which is a personal account of their lives, family and their personal fight for equality and justice. It details their childhoods, their careers, the founding of their educational centre in West Tallaght, how they met and fell in love and ultimately their High Court challenge to have their Canadian marriage recognised in Ireland.

The book contains a forward by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who has said of their memoirs:
'I recommend this book highly and believe that it will be an inspiration and a resource to many around the world who seek to establish a more just world. The aspiration of this book is clearly to offer an understanding of topics that are not often addressed out loud'.
