Galas 2011

The 3rd annual National Lesbian and Gay Federation (NLGF) LGBT awards, the GALAS, took place on Saturday the 22nd of October in The Sugar Club in Dublin. It was a wonderful evening of celebration and reflection for the LGBT community and friends.

Hosted by Declan Buckley and Sonya Lennon, the awards designed by Claire Noons, were presented to the winners by Ailbhe Smyth, Chair of the NLGF and Brian Finnegan, editor of GCN.

Marriage Equality were honoured to be amongst the winners as Community Organistion of the Year 2011. Accepting the award on behalf of the organisation Moninne Griffith, Director of Marriage Equality, said that 2011 had been a hugely sucessful one for the campaign for equality for same sex couples and our families, from the work around the General Elections earlier in the year, to the recent Just Love? media campaign and Rory's Story the short online film that has been watched by over 52,000 people so far. "We are almost there, marriage equality is within arm's reach, but we cannot do it without your continued support. Please keep lobbying your politicians, sharing your stories and giving what you can financially so we can win this within the lifetime of this Government."

We would like to thank everyone who nominated Marriage Equality, the GALAS panel of judges and the NLGF for this award and for a fabulous evening.
