Marriage Equality Awaiting Response from Government on Referendum Plans

1 Nov 2013

The time for the Government to respond to the Constitutional Convention's recommendation on extending civil marriage rights to same-sex couples has lapsed. We understand that consultations at government level are continuing to move the process forward.

Marriage Equality expects a response to the Constitutional Convetion which recommended by 79% that the Government should make a provision for same sex marriage. We expect the response by Cabinet in the coming week. Marriage Equality is committed to leading and winning a referendum campaign which will deliver civil marriage rights and protections to same-sex couples and their families and will further equality for LGBT people living in Ireland.
