Thursday, 25th September 2014: Marriage Equality have today expressed optimism for the rights of children in Ireland following the publication of the General Scheme of the Children & Family Relationships Bill. Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality has paved the way for an Ireland where children in all families will be treated equally under Irish law. To-date, only the children of married parents have benefited from the full protection of the State.

Grainne Healy, Chairwoman, Marriage Equality commented. “The rights of the child are paramount to the General Scheme of the Children & Family Relationships Bill. In a historic move by Minister Fitzgerald, this long overdue legislation will when enacted, allow families to breathe easy knowing that children from all families across Ireland will soon be protected by our laws.”
