Brendan O’Carroll’s Mrs Brown joins calls for Marriage Referendum Yes Vote Mrs Brown ‘Address to Nation’ previewed at Yes Equality Shop opening

Tuesday, 28 April 2015

Ireland’s best-loved mammy, Brendan O’Carroll’s Mrs Brown, will make an ‘address to the nation’ via a video going live online today (Tuesday, 28 April 2015). The link to Mrs Brown’s address goes live at 11am here.

The online video goes live at the opening of the Yes Equality shop by Mrs Brown’s Rory Cowan in St Stephen’s Green. The pop up shop will be open for the duration of the campaign selling t-shirts, totes bags, badges and other Yes Equality goods. The shop is also a centre point for people seeking information on the Marriage Referendum.

Speaking at today’s opening, Mrs Brown’s boys star Rory Cowan, who plays Mrs Brown’s son Rory in the hit TV show, said:
“Mrs Brown is a larger than life version of the Irish mammy. But deep down she symbolises the deep love and compassion that all Irish mothers and fathers have for their children and families, and the desire to ensure the very best for them and their futures. The message from Mrs Brown is a serious message despite the humour laced through the video: on May 22 we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change Ireland for the better – for our families, our children, our friends and our neighbours. I hope that as well as having a chuckle, Irish voters will take this message away with them, and be sure to vote Yes on 22 May.”

Yes Equality spokesperson Brian Sheehan said:
“Brendan O’Carroll and Rory Cowan, with the help of Director Lenny Abrahamson, have created a beautiful, funny and touching short video on voting Yes in the May 22 referendum. We hope that people share this with their grandparents and parents, people who might not see it otherwise.

“We are incredibly excited to open our pop up shop to sell Yes Equality branded materials, as demand from across Ireland and further afield has been so high. As well as a shop, the space will also act as a centre point for people seeking information on the referendum. The deadline for the supplemental register is May 5th and forms are available from the store. It’s just over 3 weeks until May 22 and we’re excited to bring our message to the people of Ireland with the help of Mrs Brown and the conversations we are starting all over Ireland. ”
