Get your runners on for equality

4 June 2012, 3:00 PM

Ever thought of doing a sporting event to raise money for your favourite equality cause, but there's something holding you back? Think it's too difficult? You're not fit enough? Seems like too much effort?

Here's the solution - why not complete the Women's Mini Marathon for Marriage Equality on Monday 4th June 2012? At 10Km it's the baby of mini-marathons and you don't even have to run it; joggers and walkers can apply too! And because it's on the June bank holiday, the weather might just be sunny! Need a little extra incentive? How about we throw in a limited edition Marriage Equality Women's Mini-Marathon t-shirt - available only to those completing this event!

Have we convinced you? Here's the next steps:

  1. Register your entry: log on to www.womensminimarathon.ie and follow the steps on how to officially enter the race (entries are open from 22 Feb 2012)
  2. Fill in a Marriage Equality WMM sign up form here and send it to: dawn@marriagequality.ie, or 105, Capel Street, Dublin 1 to receive your fundraising pack.
  3. (Optional) Create your own MyCharity fundraising page. This is super easy - just log on, click create fundraising page, search for Marriage Equality and follow the steps to creating your own individualised page!
  4. Ask all your friends and family to make a donation to a very worthy cause, either by asking them in person to sponsor you, or directing them to your own personalised page on MyCharity.
  5. Give yourself a pat on the back for helping us keep working to secure equality for same-sex couples and our families!

We are hoping to have at least 20 women to participate in this event. If each person raises €250 we could collectively raise €5,000! These are crucial funds which will help us continue our work, like keeping our vital 'Out to your TD' Campaign running.

By taking part in the Mini Marathon and having family and friends sponsor your success by making a donation here, you are helping to support our campaign to win equal marriage rights for same sex couples and families.

If you can't run the race yourself, but would like to support our runners, you can make a donation here too. And remember, no amount is too small or too big!

*Disclaimer: Marriage Equality does not accept any liability for rainy weather at this event, although we are keeping our fingers crossed for a sunny day!
